TAKAMAKI-E (high relief maki-e) – Developed in the Muromachi period (1336–1573), metallic powder is applied to a soft ground composed of a mixture of lacquer and charcoal or clay dust. The powder is affixed with protective coat of lacquer and polished. (JMl)
