SCHÖNFELD (KRÁSNO)

The Kaiserwald (Slavkov Forest) region was one of the world’s largest tin exporters up until the late sixteenth century, when the output from tin mines started to fall. From the end of the sixteenth century, the pewterers of Schönfeld were guild members with pewterers from Schlaggenwald, Petschau (Bečov), and Elbogen (Loket). A separate guild was established in 1732 with pewterers from Petschau, Einsiedl (Mnichov) and Lauterbach (Čistá). Their Neoclassical- and Empire-style products from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are particularly treasured. (JMl)
