CARLSBAD (Karlovy Vary)

Written records show that an independent pewterers’ guild was established in Carlsbad in the latter half of the seventeenth century. Rococo pewter from Carlsbad was especially acclaimed. Carlsbad was a major producer of pewter tableware, with production peaking in the early second half of the eighteenth century. The main sources of tin were the Kaiserwald (Slavkov Forest) and England. The Heilingötter, Hofmann, and Beermann families were among the most important pewterers in Carlsbad. (JMl)
