BLACK-FIGURE POTTERY

Black-figure painting was developed in Corinth in the 7th century BCE and spread to other areas of Greece, including Athens. This style of ceramic decoration was standard up until the 5th century BCE, when red-figure painting started to become more popular. Black-figure decoration also appears on pottery from younger periods. (JMl)
